Perfect timing, if you're in Class 12 right now. ACCA is rolling out a redesigned qualification, and June 2027 is the final exam sitting under the current structure. If you begin your ACCA journey after that — which is exactly when most of today's 12th standard students would start — you'll go straight into the new syllabus from day one, with no transition mapping or "old vs new" confusion to manage. This page reflects that new structure.
The ACCA Transition, In Six Dates
Here's exactly how the changeover works, based on ACCA's currently published transition plan.
When
What happens
Until June 2027
All exams run on the current 13-paper, 3-level structure. Anyone who starts and passes papers now keeps that credit.
June 2027
Final exam sitting under the current structure (Applied Skills & Strategic Professional). The on-demand Law paper and ethics module run slightly longer, to mid-July 2027.
July 2027
New Foundations & Knowledge level exams open, available on-demand.
September 2027
First exams for the new Expertise and Strategic Professional levels — the qualification is fully live end-to-end.
A 12th-standard student registering with ACCA after the June 2027 sitting will follow the new structure for essentially their entire journey — this is the version of ACCA relevant to you, not a future "eventually" change.

ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is a UK-based professional accounting qualification recognised in more than 180 countries. Under the redesigned qualification launching through 2027, it covers financial accounting, audit, tax and management accounting — now woven together with technology, data analytics and sustainability — across 11 exams in four levels. It's designed to be studied flexibly, often alongside a degree or full-time work, making it one of the more accessible global routes into finance and accounting.
The New ACCA Qualification: 11 Papers, 4 Levels
The redesign trims the qualification from 13 papers to 11, restructures it into four levels instead of three, and embeds technology, ethics and sustainability throughout rather than as separate add-ons. Depending on your background, several early papers may still be waived as exemptions — a Brainery counsellor will confirm your exact exemptions with ACCA before you plan your study schedule.
An on-ramp for students without a qualifying degree. Most B.Com/BBA students are expected to be exempted straight into Knowledge level, same as today — a counsellor will confirm this once entry criteria are finalised.
Knowledge (K1–K3)
3 papers
Management Accounting
Financial Accounting
Corporate & Business Law
Business and Technology (BT) has been retired, and Law moves into this level from the old Applied Skills. Commonly exempted for commerce graduates and CA/CMA/CS students. Available on-demand from July 2027.
Expertise (E1–E5)
5 papers
Performance Management
Taxation
Financial Reporting
Audit & Assurance
Financial Management
The technical core of the qualification — what used to be Applied Skills, minus Law. First exams from September 2027, then in fixed sessions.
Strategic Professional (S1–S2 + 1 Option)
3 papers
S1 — Business & Sustainability Reporting
S2 — Strategic Business Leader (successor)
+ 1 of 5 Options, including the new Data Science Professional (SDS)
Down from 4 papers (2 Essentials + 2 Options) to 3 (2 core + 1 Option) — a genuine reduction in exam load at the top level. IFRS sustainability reporting is now a co-equal pillar with financial reporting, not an add-on topic. Never exempted, regardless of prior qualifications.
Every level now includes a mandatory, non-exam Essential Employability Module (EEM) — practical workplace skills like enterprise thinking, responsible business, digital/data literacy and ethical leadership — that you complete before progressing to the next level. These sit alongside the written exams, not instead of them.
This structure reflects ACCA's publicly announced transition plan as of today. Exact paper names, codes and specimen exams are still being finalised by ACCA through 2026–27 — a Brainery counsellor will confirm the final details before you register.
How ACCA Exams & Exemptions Work
Exam sittings
Foundations and Knowledge level exams are available on-demand, any time of year, from July 2027. Expertise and Strategic Professional exams are sat in fixed sessions, starting September 2027.
Time to complete
ACCA still allows up to 10 years from registration to finish all exams, though most students studying alongside a degree or job complete it in 2–4 years. The required practical work experience has also been reduced, from 36 months to 30 months.
Exemptions, in general
Entry requirements and exemption policies carry over unchanged into the new structure. Depending on your background (B.Com, BBA, non-commerce graduate, CA/CMA Inter or Qualified, CS Executive/Professional, and others), you could still be exempted from a substantial number of Foundations and Knowledge level papers. Strategic Professional is never exempted, regardless of prior qualifications.
Essential Employability Modules
A new addition: one mandatory, non-exam module at each level (Foundations through Strategic Professional) covering practical workplace skills — enterprise thinking, responsible business, digital/data literacy and ethical leadership. These are progression gates, completed alongside your written papers.
Exact exemptions depend on your specific college, marks and syllabus — not just your degree title. Talk to a Brainery counsellor and we'll verify your precise exemption eligibility with ACCA before you commit to a study plan, so you never pay for or sit a paper you didn't need to.

Before You Commit: A Reality Check
ACCA's redesigned qualification runs 11 exams across four levels instead of 13 across three — a genuinely lighter paper load, especially at Strategic Professional (3 papers instead of 4). Under the outgoing syllabus, pass rates started high at entry level (roughly 64–88%) and dropped at the toughest final papers (around 30–50%); it's reasonable to expect a broadly similar difficulty curve under the new structure, though ACCA hasn't published pass-rate data for the new papers yet since they haven't been sat. Most students complete the full qualification in 2–4 years, often while studying or working part-time — one of the more flexible professional routes available.

Common Questions Students Ask
Do I need to go abroad to use ACCA?
No — ACCA is widely recognised by MNCs, GCCs (Global Capability Centres) and international accounting networks operating right here in India, as well as opening doors abroad if you choose that route later.
I'm starting fresh in 2027 — do I need to worry about the "old" ACCA syllabus at all?
No. If you register after the June 2027 sitting, you'll simply follow the new 11-paper, 4-level structure from your very first exam. The transition mapping and "old vs new" credit rules only matter for students who are partway through under the current syllabus.
Will the new syllabus be seen as "lesser" by employers than the old one?
No. Both routes lead to the same ACCA membership and the same letters after your name. Employers recognise "ACCA," not which version of the syllabus you sat — and the new syllabus is specifically designed to reflect current industry needs (data, technology, sustainability), which should if anything work in your favour.
Is ACCA 'easier' than CA because pass rates are higher at some levels?
Under the outgoing syllabus, entry-level ACCA papers did have higher pass rates than CA's early levels, but Strategic Professional papers were genuinely difficult (30–50% pass rates). The new syllabus hasn't been sat yet, but there's no reason to expect the difficulty curve to flatten — the qualification is still designed to get harder as you progress, same as CA and CMA.
Can I do ACCA and a professional job in India at the same time?
Yes — this is actually how ACCA is designed to be studied globally. With good planning, many students sit exams alongside work or their final year of a degree rather than needing to pause everything else.
What exactly is an exemption?
If you already hold a qualification covering the same ground as one or more ACCA exams, ACCA may let you skip that exam entirely — starting you at the level that matches what you already know rather than making you repeat it. ACCA reviews each qualification carefully, so the process can take a little time.
Can I apply before I've finished my degree?
Yes. You can register with ACCA using your expected graduation date and a transcript of modules completed so far. Depending on how much you've finished, you may already be eligible for some exemptions on a conditional basis.
Do I have to accept every exemption I'm offered?
No — it's your choice. Some students forfeit an exemption if a lot of time has passed since they studied that subject, preferring to build the knowledge fresh instead.
Why might I not get the exemptions I expected?
ACCA looks beyond just your degree title — the institution you studied at, the specific modules covered, and when you completed your qualification can all affect the outcome. This is exactly why we verify your documents with ACCA before you commit to a study plan.
